Top Ways to Socially Distance in Pure Ludington

These are unprecedented times, and we are first and foremost concerned for everyone’s health and well-being. We urge everyone to follow CDC guidelines to stay healthy. We also know it may be difficult to pass the time in this new era of social distancing. We have put together some creative ways to get out, spend time with your family and enjoy our natural resources - while maintaining six feet of distance and following proper hygiene. (And please refrain from visiting any public spaces if you exhibit any signs of COVID-19.)

Take a Hike

Ludington has no shortage of places to hike and explore the outdoors that will give you plenty of social distance. The Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness Area is 3,450 acres of protected forest and dunes adjacent to beautiful Lake Michigan. The Ludington Dune Ecosystem has the largest area of freshwater interdunal ponds in the world. It’s a great place to hike, as is Ludington State Park, where 5,300 acres of scenic sand dunes, sandy beaches and the iconic Big Sable Lighthouse can be found - not to mention 21 miles of hiking trails.

Get Your Bicycle Out of Storage

Check out the good number of bicycle trails in Ludington! Ludington School Forest, Memorial Tree Park and Cartier Park together create 10 miles of trails are all easily accessible in the heart of town and ideal for all ages, so take the kids too. You might also bike M-116 along the sand dunes and Lake Michigan - one of the most scenic drives in the entire Midwest! Once you get to the Ludington State Park, you can connect to the paved pathway paralleling the road through the park.

Picnic in the Park

Ludington entrepreneurs have a lot of heart and are coming up with creative ways to serve the community. Treat yourself to a takeout lunch or dinner, head to one of our magnificent parks or beaches and have a picnic with loved ones or watch the sun set . Inspired Parties will hook you up with a take-home craft kit for pickup or local delivery, while supplies last. (Check Facebook for sign-up and payment instructions.)

Visit a Farm

The cows at Country Dairy are still in business. Say hello to these furry friends and visit the farm store, where you can find fresh milk, cheese, ice cream, and fresh and frozen meats. Country Dairy is also an expert in takeout, since it has been doing it for 15 years, so grab lunch too before you leave.

Head to the River

Ludington is a fishing destination with miles of rivers and streams to fish in any season. The Pere Marquette and Sauble rivers beckon anglers to Mason County where the fishing will only get better this spring, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Our outfitters will help you with the gear you need and point you in the right direction.
