Celebrate Fall with Octoberfest

octoberfest header.jpg

Usher in the fall season with a weekend of craft beer, chili and family activities in downtown Ludington. Octoberfest kicks off on Friday, Sept. 28 with Pub Crawl Games, and festivities that will last throughout the weekend at this craft beer and music festival.

Pub Crawl Games will launch the event with 4-7 p.m. registration at Ludington Bay Brewing Co. The games begin at 5 p.m., and participants must return their maps to The Mitten Bar by 9 p.m. for a chance to win prizes. We want to warn you, that these are not your average games; they are minute-to-win-it style. Add a few beverages along your trail and the games become harder to complete!

The fun continues Saturday morning with a not-so-traditional bike race, that will take racers through Spindrift Cyclesports, The Mitten Bar and Sportsman's Irish Pub. And when we say through them, we mean it. Riders will actually be competing on a course that takes them physically through these establishments and across Ludington Avenue. It is a fun race to watch, so grab a seat somewhere along the route or inside one of the businesses for a front row seat to the action.

Octoberfest continue with a free chili walk, where event-goers can stop at downtown businesses to sample their various spicy, bean concoctions. Maps are available for download, or stop by James Street Plaza or the Visitor’s Center downtown to get one. Over 30 stops are on the route. Participants may graze until 2 p.m. and vote for their favorite soup by 6 p.m.

What Octoberfest celebration would be complete without beer? Not this one! Craft beer service from Bell’s Brewery and Ludington Bay Brewing Co. begins at 2 p.m., with live music in the tent from the Marek Brothers Polka Band and Aberdeen. German-style food will be available for purchase, and blind-folded beer tasting contests will keep participants guessing.

Kids’ activities and lawn games make the festival a family event.

The festivities wouldn’t be complete without a mustache contest. To enter, send a photo of your ‘stache to to be entered to win. You must include your name, email and photo. All entries get two free passes to get into the festival on Saturday.  Event-goers will vote for their favorite face, and the winner will be announced at the festival.
